Old-fashioned cleaning tips for your ceramic tiles.

Cleaning your bathroom is not very pleasant, maybe, but definitely necessary. Old ceramic tiles in your bathroom can be refreshed and look as new if you use some time-tested cleaning tips and methods from the era of your grandma.
* You can make old tiles gleam like new by rubbing them gently with an old newspaper or a chamois cloth moistened with an ammonia solution. The right proportion is: 1 tsp (5ml) in 2 cups (+/-500ml) of water. You may also polish your tiles after cleaning with a little bit of cooking oil to protect against moisture and to add shine.
*Stubborn stains can be rubbed away with a straight ammonia solution.
*To remove rust spots you can rub your old tiles with a mixture of water and vinegar.
*A discoloured grout between tiles could be scoured with ammonia solution or baking soda. Dab it on the grout with an old toothbrush or with a moist cloth, let it work for some time and then rinse it off.
*You can whiten a grout between tiles by scrubbing it with a small quantity of toothpaste on an old, soft-bristled toothbrush.
*Silicon caulking can be cleaned with powdered yeast dissolved in water.
*To clean severely discoloured grout, you can rub it by using a very fine sandpaper. But do it very gently and carefully. Ceramic tiles, especially the glossy ones, can be easily scratched. Be sure to not damage the glaze on your tiles.
